Memphis bike ministry inspires similar group in Iowa

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) – One man drove more than nine hours to Memphis when a Bluff City ministry inspired him. In October 2014, Joe Laslo had an accident that changed his life forever. “I had a bicycle accident last October,” Laslo recalled. “I nearly died. I shattered my clavicle and broke six ribs.” Laslo, who lives in Des Moines, Iowa, said he found new purpose after the accident. He felt a call to begin a ministry using his bike. “I did a little bit of research on …

Rocking for Love

Rocking for Love

When Lahna Deering and Jason Freeman join the other musicians performing at the Rock for Love music festival next week, the gig will be a bit more meaningful for them than the shows they normally play. That’s because the ninth annual festival, set for Sept. 3-6, is a marquee fundraiser for the Church Health Center, a faith-based nonprofit that provides quality health care to Shelby County residents without insurance. Donations and fundraising are the lifeblood of the organization, which w…

Despite Personnel Losses, UT’s Defense Should Be Much-Improved

John Jancek begins his third season as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator under head coach Butch Jones, and thanks to two solid recruiting classes should have his best defense with the Vols. UT is bigger and faster on the defensive side than the previous two seasons, when the Vols showed improvement from the 2012 season by shaving more than 100 yards and 11 points per game allowed. Of course, the Vols need to be better to contend for an SEC East title. UT’s defense ranked ninth in th…

Memphis, Sakkara, Gizah and more…..

Memphis, Sakkara, Gizah and more…..

very funny and very enjoyable staff i had no idea how to drive a quad but in few minutes , i was driving in the desert My wife and I had a great 4 days in Cairo with the guys from Memphis Tours. I initially booked via the web and got contacted by Magued right away. We arrived on a Friday and also asked them to pick us up at the airport – saves you a lot of hassle. Islam picked us up at immigration and we were out of the airport and on the way to our hotel in no time. The next day we met our tour guide Ans and did the tour to Memphis, Sakkara and the Great Pyramids in Gizah. Our driver was Mohammed. Both did everything they could to make our tour pleasant. The car was great (incl. WiFi Hotspot!), Ans super knowledgable and Mohammed on time wherever we needed him. They are also very flexible with their schedule as you “own” the car and crew for the time you booked it, anyway. We saw the major sights of the “ancient” Egypt (at least the ones you can visit within a day trip from Cairo) and had plenty of time for photos, stops and questions. The included lunch was surprisingly good. The next day we did the tour for the Citadel in Cairo, the Coptic part and one of the bazars. Also this tour was great (only half day incl. lunch) and we had plenty of time and never felt stressed. Monday my wife went to see the National Museum (as I had to work and already saw it once) and she was impressed again by the professionalism and the great knowledge of Ans. All in all we could not ask for anything more of Memphis Tours. They provide a fun, professional and safe environment and they are very flexible. A last a word about general safety: I come to Cairo since a long time and I have to say that currently it is such a great place to visit. You can be sure that everybody takes care of you, provides a safe environment and really shows the utmost hospitality. I almost always make all of my own travel plans. I wanted a little bit of a more relaxing time for my 9 days in Egypt, so I decided to see what was out there for arranged tours. After reading through many tours that were either unexciting or quite expensive, I came across Memphis Tours, which looked like the perfect balance of economy and fun! So, I sent the interest email… … and received a detailed, personalized reply in just a few hours. This good start continued through the whole tour experience. Memphis Tours proved to be very, very good at what they do. My small group of 3 was very well taken care of and we saw so, so much! We were greeted at the airport right when we got to customs and Memphis was with until the very end. The guides were all knowledgable and fun. We received lots of attention and all of our needs were met. We were also happy with the balance of downtime. We would have full mornings and evenings, but enough rest time was built in so we could enjoy everything thoroughly. We were also very happy with the addons we booked while on the tour — a few additional tours and the Luxor sunrise balloon ride. I would absolutely use Memphis Tour again. Visiting the Pyramids has been on my bucket list since before I had a bucket so I really had high expectations. Memphis Tours did an excellent job start to finish. I was met at my hotel by the tour director and he gave me a quick overview of the day. Nice. Then we walked outside and I met my guide Ahmed and my driver as well. Both were quick to anticipate my needs and made me feel very comfortable. The car had wifi which was a great touch for anyone wanting to post photos real-time. We headed straight to the Pyramids and I got goosebumps that never left the entire day. Ahmed was a wealth of knowledge and always had an answer to any question I asked. The driver was friendly and helpful. I really don’t have words for the emotions I felt seeing these huge monuments. I have traveled all over the world and seen many amazing sights but usually think to myself, I expected it to be bigger. Not this time; the Pyramids were way bigger than I expected, towering above the desert. The museum was a whirlwind but unforgettable nonetheless. A priceless experience. My only recommendation is the shops. I would have preferred not to visit any stores and even if they say there is no pressure I felt a lot. Next time I will just say let’s skip the stores. Regardless, this tour is not to be missed and Memphis did everything right. Excellent! I would like to thank Memphis Tours for doing a fantastic job and for making my holiday experience enjoyable! In particular I would like to thank Mai Mohammed at Memphis tours who was very patient with a million questions and concerns I had. Mai was also able to help us work within our budget to have this experience and for her kindness and patience I am always grateful. I am a first timer to Egypt and I also was very concerned about safety due to the political instability and incidents advertised on the media. I was definitely in for a surprise because when i reached to Egypt i found nothing but peace and joy. In the end i am I glad i didn’t cancel my trip due to fear and mostly i am glad that i choose Memphis tours to organise this for me! I would like to thank Tarek Magdy Abo El Fotouh and Emam (the driver in Cairo). Tarek was very organized, respectful, and accommodating and is definetly someone you can depend on. Thank you to Maha El Halwagy who was our tour guide to Giza pyramids and was exceptionally brilliant and also an excellent photographer! She was pleasant and offered us a lot of good advice for the rest of our stay in Egypt. A huge thank you to Yasser Pharo who was our tour guide on our cruise at Aswan and Luxor! Yasser is just absolutely brilliant!!! He imparted much of his knowledge to us, and is also another excellent photographer. Yasser Pharo treated us like family. Thanks to Yasser, Mahmoud Boghdadi (Ruby) and the driver on the 19th August who all surprised me with a birthday cake and a decorated Felluca!!! I cannot say thank you enough. Thanks to Ruby who was our point of contact to Hurghada. This individual has a very special tallent for making people laugh and that is exactly what he did for hours from Luxor until we reached Hurgada keeping us entertained!! Memphis tours did a great overall job organising our trip and their team of selected people are all very special in different ways. I went to Egypt a stranger and left having made many friends with these people. Egypt’s culture, people, history and beauty has left a lasting impression on me.. thank you all! I do have one complaint and that is complaining to myself for not booking a longer trip!!!! I cant wait to visit Egypt again! They only sell steak tacos, which I don’t like… so not surprisingly I didn’t like this place. I thought maybe they’d be the best steak tacos I’d ever encountered… but not so much. They only serve steak tacos period, no tortas or other types of food. For such intense specialization I expected it to be amazing but it just wasn’t good. I couldn’t see myself going back.
